Function
A Carbon brush 6.10 with a U-shaped lug, sometimes referred to as a ‘U-lug carbon brush,’ is a type of carbon brush used in electric motors. Carbon brushes with U-shaped lugs are designed to provide a more stable and reliable electrical connection than traditional carbon brushes.
Here's what they're used for:
1. Electrical connection: U-shaped carbon brushes provide a solid and stable electrical connection between the carbon brush itself and the motor's electrical system. The U-shaped tab is typically made of a solid conductive material that allows electrical current to be transferred efficiently.
2. Reliability: Carbon brushes with U-shaped lugs offer better connection reliability than traditional carbon brushes. The U-shaped design creates a larger and more stable contact surface, reducing the risk of electrical connection disruptions due to vibration, shock or motor movement.
3. Durability: U-shaped carbon brushes are often more durable than traditional carbon brushes because the U-shaped design is more resistant to wear. This increased durability can extend the life of the carbon brushes and reduce the frequency of replacement.
4. Ease of replacement: When carbon brushes with a U-shaped lug need to be replaced, the U-shaped connection makes the process easy. Simply remove the old carbon brushes and replace them with new ones with the same U-shaped lug.
This 6.10 U-shaped carbon brush is commonly used in various electric motors where a reliable electrical connection is essential to ensure proper motor operation. It helps maintain a stable power supply, reduces interruptions and minimises maintenance issues.
Wear and replacement
The Carbon brush 6.10 in a sander motor should be replaced when it is visibly worn (usually below 5 mm), if the motor loses power, runs irregularly, produces excessive sparks or heats up abnormally. A burning smell may also indicate advanced wear. Even if there are no symptoms, it is recommended to check the condition of the carbon brushes regularly, especially during intensive use. To ensure optimal performance, it is advisable to replace both carbon brushes at the same time and to check the collector when changing them.
