Binders and fillers for solid wood flooring: an essential step

Binders and fillers: the invisible finish for perfect flooring

Binders and fillers are essential repair and finishing products for achieving a smooth, uniform and attractive floor. Specially formulated for filling wood surfaces, they allow you to fill gaps, cracks and imperfections whilst preserving the natural colour of the wood. At Repex Floor, two products stand out for their effectiveness and versatility: the Wood Filler and the Parquet Joint Filler.

A discreet and long-lasting repair

Both products offer invisible finishes that blend perfectly with the wood. Their advanced formulation ensures:

  • Exceptional adhesion to all types of wood (solid, engineered, exotic).
  • Quick drying for immediate resumption of work (sanding, varnishing, oiling).
  • Full compatibility with subsequent finishes (varnishes, paints, oils).
  • Resistance to wear and the natural movements of wood (expansion, contraction).

Two complementary solutions for all your projects

Wood Filler Binder: the versatile solution

The Wood Filler Binder is a high-performance filling product, ideal for glued parquet flooring, joinery, furniture and wood panelling. Its flexible, pigmentable formula is suitable for all types of wood.

Technical specifications:

  • Usage: filling joints, cracks, small fissures, holes and splinters up to 2 mm.
  • Drying time: fast (30 to 60 minutes depending on thickness), allowing sanding to resume immediately.
  • Finish: can be tinted throughout with colour concentrates for a perfect match.
  • Compatible surfaces: solid wood flooring, engineered wood flooring, furniture, stairs, panelling, interior woodwork.

Repex Floor pro tip: for the best results, apply the filler after the first sanding (80-grit) and before the final finish. Once dry, sand lightly (120–150-grit) to remove any excess.

Parquet Joint Filler: flexibility for skirting boards

Parquet Joint Filler is specially designed to fill expansion gaps and perimeter joints between the parquet and skirting boards. Its silicone-free and flexible formula follows the natural movements of the wood without cracking or peeling.

Technical specifications:

  • Usage: expansion joints, parquet-skirting board joints, gaps between boards.
  • Flexibility: remains elastic after drying, absorbing the expansion and contraction of the wood.
  • Drying time: surface dry in 20 minutes, fully cured in 24 hours.
  • Finish: can be varnished or painted once cured.
  • Compatible surfaces: wooden parquet, laminate flooring, melamine flooring, wooden or MDF skirting boards.
  • Additional benefits: odourless, solvent-free, easy to clean with water before drying.

Application tip: use a cartridge gun for precise application and smooth immediately with a wet finger or a flexible spatula for a clean, professional finish.

Recommended tools for applying binders and sealants

To achieve precise and durable repairs, the choice of tools is essential. Here is our professional selection recommended by Repex Floor:

1. Spatulas and sealant knives

  • Flexible spatulas: ideal for smoothing the sealant binder and distributing the product evenly over joints or cracks.
  • Rigid putty knives: for deeper holes or significant cracks, allowing for precise and even filling.
  • Repex Floor tip: work in small sections to prevent the product from drying out before smoothing.

2. Cartridge guns

  • Used for Parquet Joint Sealant, they ensure precise and even application on expansion joints and connections with skirting boards.
  • Allow you to dispense exactly the required amount and minimise waste.
  • Practical tip: smooth the sealant immediately with a flexible spatula or a damp finger to achieve a clean, uniform joint.

3. Cloths and sponges

  • For quickly cleaning up excess or smears before drying.
  • Damp cloths to wipe away excess filler from wooden surfaces.
  • Avoid any contact once hardened so as not to damage the finish.
