A solvent-based floor sealant is a type of protective coating used to seal and protect wooden floors. Solvent-borne" means that the product is based on organic solvents, as opposed to water-based products.

Solvent-based sealers are known for their exceptional resistance and durability. They create a solid protective layer on the floor surface, offering excellent protection against wear, scratches and stains. However, they can emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can cause an unpleasant odour during application and require adequate ventilation. In addition, some solvent-based products may have environmental restrictions due to their VOC emissions.

Despite these drawbacks, solvent-based sealers are still used in some applications where maximum protection and long-term durability are essential, but their use is becoming increasingly limited due to environmental concerns and the growing popularity of water-based products, which emit fewer VOCs.
