Tips for applying bio-based oil-wax to wooden floors
The floor must be bare, clean, dry and sound. If it has a finish (varnish, wax, oil), sand it down to bare wood with 120–150 grit sandpaper, then dust thoroughly.
Mix the oil-wax well before application. Apply a thin coat with a brush (or short-bristle roller) in the direction of the wood grain. Wipe off any excess immediately, especially in the joints. For the edges, use a brush and then smooth with a roller.
Two coats are usually sufficient, with 4 hours drying time between coats. A third coat can be applied in high-traffic areas. Before each new coat, sand lightly (150–240 grit) and then dust. Complete hardening takes 10 to 20 days; avoid rugs, water and heavy furniture during this period.
After application, place a doormat at the entrance and avoid contact with water for the first few days. For maintenance, dust regularly and clean with a slightly damp mop and mild detergent.
