The Zirconium Disc centre hole Ø 150 grit 36, is traditionally blue in colour, and we strongly advise against opting for a green model, as the grit is overheated and won't hold properly.

Zirconium is an ideal material for sanding metal, delivering faster, more effective results, even on difficult-to-treat materials. It excels particularly in the roughing stage, but can cause micro-scratches.

Zirconium, the chemical element Zr, is a grey-white, hard and malleable metal, mainly found in nature in the form of the mineral zircon.

In the field of sanding, zirconium is frequently used as an abrasive material. These abrasives are generally made by mixing zirconium with other abrasive materials, then bonding them with resin or rubber. However, it is important to note that some variants on the market contain an excessive amount of zirconium combined with silicon carbide, which reduces the quality of the sanding and renders the grains irrecoverable in the event of breakage.

Zirconium abrasives are valued for their ability to quickly remove difficult-to-sand materials such as hard metals, alloys and composites. In addition, zirconium offers high resistance to heat and wear, making it a valuable material for sanding at high temperatures and on rough, tough surfaces.

It should be noted that zirconium is extremely resistant to corrosion, making it versatile in many applications, such as the manufacture of nuclear reactors, pipes, sheet metal and other components for the chemical and oil and gas industries. It is also used in the creation of jewellery, watches and other high-end products because of its ability to resist oxidation and to be polished to a lasting shine.

Finally, zirconium is used in alloys, notably with niobium, hafnium and titanium, to produce materials that are highly resistant to heat and corrosion, such as aircraft turbines and rocket engines.
